Street Youth Ministries is a non-profit, faith-based organization serving homeless and at-risk youth and young adults (ages 13-26) in the Seattle area. We strive to provide youth in Seattle’s University District with life-skills, resources, and relationships that bring hope and healing to their lives and the community.  We are committed to connecting through meaningful relationships. We honor the sacredness and uniqueness of their personal story and seek to love them accordingly. We partner with our young people. We walk with them as they navigate the challenging structures of society. We use our resources and experience to help them achieve their goals and stability. We grieve with them when they fail and delight with them when they succeed. We provide opportunities for adventure that build community and self-esteem, practice basic skills, and expand their worldview. We affirm the inherent worth of each youth and young adult who comes through our doors. We communicate through our words and actions their worthiness of fulfillment and belonging. We recognize the importance of diversity of thought, life experience, and identity, and champion diverse representation in our drop-in and team.

SYM, based in the University District neighborhood in Seattle.

In the spring of 2020, SYM made several adjustments to our programming to adhere to health recommendations surrounding the COVID pandemic. Here is an overview of our current programs:

SYM Drop-in – Youth, ages 13-26 have access to basic resources like food, hygiene items, showers, laundry and clothing. Instead of our regular evening hours, SYM extended their hours and moved every drop-in to the day to provide overflow coverage for other drop-in services and account for days where no drop-in is available.

SYM Drop-in Case Management – Youth ages 13-26 can receive individual assistance with ID, housing and employment connections, and other support identified by the young person. This is available Mondays through Fridays from 10am-3pm in the SYM office.

SYM Mobile Resource Van – SYM is going to locations where many who are homeless are living or congregating and offering food, hot drinks, hand warmers, sleeping bags, backpacks, clothing, socks, underwear, hygiene items and a handwashing station. Our outreach time is out in the community twice a week. Our mobile resources are available to all who need them, regardless of age.

Our meal team in action!

How to get involved:

Join a meal team! We serve a warm, healthy meal at our drop-in center three days a week. Most of these meals are provided by meal teams– individuals, families, or small groups who organize & deliver the meal. If you’d like to provide lunch (once or on a regular basis) please email

Organize a drive! Are you part of a church, community group, or work place looking to serve the community? Donation drives are a simple way to get involved. SYM is able to offer hygiene products, clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags, underwear, and other immediate needs because of the generosity of our community. Please email to connect!

COVID-19 safe donation option: Amazon wish list! We have created a list on amazon of our most important needs for youth right now. As our program shifts, so do the items on this list and their priority status. This is a great way to serve us from home! We appreciate your support in this way.

Financial Gifts! We ask that especially now you consider a gift to SYM. We are working hard to navigate the uncertainty ahead with grace and wisdom. Your generosity will help us care for people experiencing homelessness in the University District during this everchanging scenario. We will be good stewards of every dollar to ensure vulnerable people are cared for during this COVID-19 crisis. Thank you. Your support means so much!
