Org focus friday: abundance of hope

Abundance of Hope Center’s (AofH) mission is to provide equitable, culturally responsive, holistic and person centered homelessness prevention services to our community’s most At-Risk Youth, ages 12-26. It is their goal to better strengthen communities by empowering the most at-risk youth with the self-esteem, values and tools necessary for making positive choices; while providing them with quality basic care needs, education, community resources, case management, advocacy, transitioning skills, and goal setting meetings involving professionals, family, and youth in our care. Abundance of Hope Center is a family lead organization, founded and operated by African American women and other minority groups.  They are a Black women founded and Black operated grassroots non-profit organization bringing non-judgmental, uplifting services to their communities.

AofH was established in 2008 as a labor of love for youth slipping through the cracks; most of which were disproportionately people of color and LGBTQIA people despite being the minority of the community. AofH staff includes members who have personally faced and overcome many of the same barriers as our most at-risk youth, and are committed to inclusion and equity in practices, policy, and programming. AofH is currently operating a Covid-19 Community Needs Response program that offers eligible families and individuals up to $200 financial assistance for rent, utilities and other essential bills, as well as hygiene items and educational supplies. Through the support of partners and community members, AofH has served 60 families (over 220 individuals) through their Covid-19 Community Needs Response program since March 2020. In addition, they also operate a back to School Pop Up Shop is a voucher system for youth 12-26 to shop free online at Hope Shop Thrift Boutique and have items shipped no contact to their door.

How someone can get involved to support your organization?

AofH is all about community. Their work involved connecting with and serving folks in the community, supporting and uplifting one another to bring healing and transformation for those who are impacted by the risk of homelessness and marginalization. Getting involved with their organization will bring you deeper in connection with yourself by immersing you into a beautiful sense of community and connectedness. If you are interested in volunteering, you are encouraged to fill out a volunteer application from their website, or subscribe to their newsletter to receive emails about volunteering opportunities. Lastly, please consider a monthly donation to this wonderful organization. They are grassroots and from the community in which they serve. Donating regularly to their mission is an antiracist and equitable ACTION that you can take to support a group of women who are making a huge impact in their community.
